THE MOON
Our Moon gave light to our most distant ancestors, was tracked and calculated by the ancients, has been personified in Gods and Godesses, and been the inspiraton for songs and poems. Even when storytellers create alternate worlds and fantasy realms where all else is wondrous and bizarre, time and again they leave our familar Moon in the sky. It's changing moods are part of the human story.
And it seems fitting that the Apollo program, still renown today for its spirit and energy, should have fulfilled the fantasy of centuries and taken humans to the Moon.
In this presentation we've tried to capture the feeling of excitement, optimism and awe that marked the Apollo era. We've deliberately left out some of the more iconic moments and phrases that get used in every other Moon presentation, especially the now disputed "one small step for (a) man" sequence. Instead we've concentrated on less well-known images and audio.
Those images are not in chronological order, but are instead a selection from almost all the Apollo Moon missions. Likewise the audio. It's the spirit that we're trying to capture rather than the specifics of any one mission or event.
For those who do want the exact details, the detailed caption information for each image is presented below.
The music is a version of Franz Biebl's "Ave Maria" played and produced for us exclusively by Richard deHove. If you like the soundtrack it's available as part of our $10 download. The "Moon Pack" contains the short web version of the show; the full sized (and scalable) full length Moon show of 8 minutes with many extra still and video sequences; a long-loop Moon screensaver, an extended MP3 of "Ave Maria" and a selection of wallapers for both single and dual monitors. And of course full caption information to all the images and video.
We think it's an excellent and inspiring download for any Moon lover at just $10. Click here to download now.
And thanks as always to the good folks at NASA who kindly place all their data in the public domain, making this show possible.
